Archival Platinum DVD-R uses an innovative Platinum-Silver alloy that guarantees similar corrosion resistance as Gold-based archival media, but at much lower cost. Platinum DVD-R is proving corrosion resistant comparable to DVD-R with pure gold. This corrosion resistance makes Platinum DVDs inherently robust against small pinholes or other defects in the DVD bonding resins. These initial defects can cause degradation of the reflector and subsequently the archived data during long-time storage if pure Ag is used for the reflector.

Accelerated lifetime tests executed under high humidity and high temperature conditions confirm the excellent archival lifetime of Archival Platinum DVD-R discs.
